Actually most wives have a secret bank account as it was often the case in the past that if they got divorced they would lose everything.

You can't get a divorce easily if the other party refuses. If one party refuses, no divorce, no new life to start over and someone harping on you every minute of every day. If you both agree, you can get the papers for it at a stationary store and work it all out amicably.

The "or" as you pointed out is the ugly part. The "or" is expect to lose everything because you most likely will. I don't know too many folks that are comfortable with losing everything. The other party in the marriage can resort to blackmail, threats, and other embarrassing moments such as screaming, crying and threatening to kill herself at your job. They will also try to ruin your reputation and get you in trouble with the law.

So do be aware that if you are contemplating a divorce, your life will be turned upside down unless your spouse agrees.

Holy lord ! I can't seem to believe the stories above but I am sure they are true or at least mostly true. How crazy is this culture ? It seems that for someone who wants to have a relationship that may result to a baby, must use all signals of the brain beforehand or pay the price of stupidity of being involved with someone who will or can flip in time ??? Usually this kind of behaviour has telltale signs even right in the beginning of the relationship or marriage.

This is actually a serious question a couple should ask themself *before* getting a baby.
Kids are a sacrifice, sure. But what:
... do we do if it is mentally handicapped (noticed after or before birth)?
... if we do a divorce?
... happens to the baby if one of us or both of us die? Usually that's what godfathers/godmothers(godparents) are for but not sure that exists in Taiwan). And suppose there are no related laws for it.

Talk this over with your wife and you may hear responses you wouldn't expect.

These are tough questions. Although they seem like perfectly legit questions, I don't think the answer may be the truth. IMO these are questions, we have to ask ourselves. As individuals.

It's not a cultural thing....divorces go bad everywhere. Distraught wives do crazy things and men can be real pricks about it. I've seen friends and family run away with the kids, try to kill themselves, and get into fistucuffs (usually the woman hitting the man). None of this in Taiwan.
