If it was 7-Eleven, I could understand. I mean, they put cream in the potato sandwiches!

We don't know anything about the lead up to the stuff being chucked. We don't know what she said in the moments prior. We don't know anything about the store clerk (age, relationship to person doing the chucking) etc. I thought it rather admirable that other Taiwanese wandered into the shop and stood about watching. Better than all these gungho ex-pats who seem to only live to point out to Taiwanesers how things should be done according to them. I guess some of you would have been in there, body checking her, shoving your Westernized bourgeois ideals down everyone's throats. As usual. Plus, what about the lovely old law that if you hurt the girl while tackling her she can counter-sue you? What do you care about more, some yoghurt or getting sued? Potentially having anything happen to you or saving some yakult from an embrace with the linoleum?

I know. See a video, jump to a conclusion. Stick doggedly to that conclusion. :D

My SO says that [the news says that others say that] the xiao-jie meal-chucker was totally out of money, stonecold broke, and had been behaving a bit oddly, even before she took it upon herself to wreck the store.

I hope she was arrested after all that. I wish they would make her clean up the mess and pay for any damaged merchandise. But, she would not have been forced to do so. That chore would be left to the workers earning NT$ 80 to NT$ 100 per hour to do.

I despise people who do that shit. My wife had two Subway stores for a while a few years ago. She was very good to her student employees, and in return, her employees were loyal. Many of them still contact my wife to go out for dinners and lunches and to report on their lives. Anyway, as with many Subways, the store policy was that drinks were self serve and customers could have as many refills as they liked. However, customers were not permitted to share drinks. There was a sign on the drink fountain to this effect, in Chinese and English. One day a woman came in with her family and they sat down with their five meals and one drink. The smallest girl that was employed by my wife was working that day, and she watched as the woman refilled her one drink several times and the family shared that cup. My wife's employee decided to advise the woman that refills are permitted but sharing is not. The woman became indignant and threw the drink in the girl's face and then slapped the girl in the face. Of course, the woman and her family quickly left after this incident. I've always hoped that karma comes around hard on that woman.
As it is, we seem to regard it as a positive objection to a reasoner that he has taken one side or the other. We regard it (in other words) as a positive objection to a reasoner that he has contrived to reach the object of his reasoning. We call a man a bigot or a slave of dogma because he is a thinker who has thought thoroughly and to a definite end.

Sometimes people can behave in this way as a signal that something has finally snapped and we want someone to help us. She sort of looked more resigned to what she was doing than flat out furious or bonkers.

Also, does the title need to say 'Hot' girl? Do we have to objectify her as well as taking another opportunity to pound Taiwan and generally blather about nonsense?

What's that thing called again when you want to ignore everyone else?

Yeah, I think she deserves a little sympathy - it does look like she's genuinely a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Even so (re. Tigerman's story) that kind of thing is not on. Someone, somewhere has to pay for the damage, and there's nothing wrong with trying to stop it happening. Standing around slack-jawed might be the Taiwanese Way, but that doesn't mean we ever-so-superior westerners have no right to suggest there might be another way of dealing with it.

Yeah, I know. I should be more mature. Even I get depressed at the unchecked stupidity that flushes through these boards though. I can see I am getting quite snippy round here and need to check myself before I wiggedy wiggedy wreck myself.

there might be another way of dealing with it.

What way would that be? Tackle her yourself? If someone robs a shop in England it is common policy to let them. If someone wants to smash up your shop, let them. Especially if your shop is a franchise, with insurance. Getting yourself into a world of trouble over a few tea eggs and some rotten fish pie is not smart. If the girl then breaks the shop assistants arm if he interferes, BINGO he is suing Family Mart. I would suspect shop workers are actively told to leave people alone. But, if you have a different idea about what should have been done then I am here for you baby! :D
