didn't PaddyB find that he could get the Whyte Kings Cross somewhere in Taiwan?

I was quoted 26,900 for the Whyte ...

too cheap though and still a CX bike.

When the pity is backed with such a comprehensive answer, well then the pity is accepted

thanks for the long list - I will be on the outlook for one of the those Specialized bikes, they look mighty nice

when importing from the us, then the only tax added is the standard 5% Taiwan VAT right? (Unless ofcourse I handcarry... I actually met Jens Voigt at the airport on the way to TW - he had a full race cycle with him, packed nicely in a custom fit shoulderbag!)

Specialized have their own store in Neihu (RuiAn Rd or whatever its called, opposite the flower market). The bikes are all made in Taiwan anyway, so that made sense.

The tricross comes in several flavours, but you'd be mad not to get the best groupset you can afford. eg, 105 for starters. or SRAM Rival.

Good luck finding your size.

Good luck with Spesh! They won't special order anything and the only CX bike they have in larger than midget size is the uber spendy Crux model. And I doubt they stock XL anything but who knows.

They have that big pretty store but they don't sell jack in Taiwan! Too bad, the Tricross Elite Disc Apex would be a really choice mountain road ride and a great option for the OP.

PaddyB wrote:Anyway, I'm loving having a CX bike. I'm running 35mm Schwalbe Marathon Racers on it right now and I love being able to just blast over any kind of road surface I encounter - huh? what are pinch flats?

So what do I get a couple weeks after the above post? A fucking pinch flat on my way to work!

I guess granite paving blocks with 4cm gaps will do in just about any tire. I slid off the center and kabam! Left some nasty gouges in my rim too. All for a bullshit shortcut to get out of traffic for 5 minutes. Why cant they just make the goddam Sanxia River bike path go all the way to Sanxia? I didnt have time to inspect it and/or screw with putting a new tube in so I had to leave my bike at a nearby police station. [/rant]

I'm 200 cm and went to Auranden Bike in Tianmu about a year ago. I got a huge locally branded steel frame with 105 components, but he can get you any material. I went in for a fitting, and after about a month I got the bike. After a few adjustments, it fits perfectly. I ride it for 3+ hours without any discomfort. It was within your price range.

He's a nice guy and speaks good English. Here's his contact info.
