Taipei University Wants Masters Degree Holders and Lawyers as Instructors

Postby jdsmith » 08 Mar 2012, 21:38

(Mod: Please Don't move this to TEIT, as it is, nafaik, only about teaching English)

I was approached by the President of Taipei University here in San Xia this morning. He asked if I had a Masters Degree. I said Ya. He asked me if I would be interested in teaching at the University. I said Na, I'm leaving soon. He told me that he, the University really, was seeking Masters Degree holders to teach on campus. I went on about my walk and sent him an email when I got home, asking him if he was interested in getting people to only teach English Conversation to undergrads, which, admittedly, is not the best job in the world.

This was his response:
Dear JD:

Thanks for your e-mail. As NTPU is striving for the advancement of internationalization, we are trying to get more English native speakers (with at least master's degree) to teach either English or professional fields, preferably business, laws, or liberal arts. I would appreciate if you can introduce your acquaintances living near NTPU's campus. Thanks.

Fujiing Shiue

The university sports a brand new Law School and the campus is sweet. It is very easy to get to from the MRT in Yongning, by bus about 15 minutes, and 5 minutes off the exit ramp for YingGe by car. If you live in the area, you know how nice is it here.

If you have a MA/MS or a law degree, throw me a PM and I'll give you his email.

Cheers

Yep. All the posts and threads about unis only hiring PhD holders  . Like foreigners can't get credit cards  . I've seen no evidence of it myself and just assumed that it was specific to Taipei. IMO anyone decent with a relevant Master's can land a teaching job in a uni in Taiwan.

MAs usually end up teaching Freshman English to a huge classroom of mixed level kids. It sucks. I've done it. It sucks. Did I say that? But, the pay is good and it's not snot nosed brats at 8PM.

You thinking of applying there, Tommo?

Would do like a shot, but already working at a uni. Loving every minute and compared to teaching kids it is heaven. Plus, as you say, the teaching hours are freakin' fantastic (normal).

I'd agree, but most things are really hush hush, how many foreigners know how to get a Costco credit card and what they need to do? It's not an easy process unless you have really good Chinese or help. I can assure you the bank itself will tell you straight out, no CC for foreigners as they have done to me.

btw, can someone loan me a Master's degree so I can get a job there?

I'm not making this up. The wife and I went to Costco on Tuesday. She went and applied for a credit card and they refused her because she isn't employed. The saleslady then suggested that I get the credit card instead. I had to provide my JFRV and business card. They are then supposedly going to phone my employer to make sure I'm not a bad 'en. Haven't received it yet, though, so no idea if I'll actually get one. To be honest, I don't really like credit cards because they encourage profligacy.

Speaking like a Greek (or is that Portuguese?)

Anyway, back to topic....and damn! If only I wasn't living in Danshui.

Do they care for a Master in Engineering?
