No, I did not say that, and I'd also be really surprised if this were the case. They just need a couple of people to deal with the foreign customers precisely because most of the 200 staff can't, and are busy doing their own job anyway.

No, it's not. What gave you this feeling? Does your friend work at night too?

Precisely what I'd like to know before I walk in there and demand outrageous bonuses :D

Yeah, some of their main customers are in Europe or South America, so they have special shifts of staff who speak whatever language working in that time zone (i.e. my friend speaks German, handles German sales and works from 2pm to 1am or something similar).

I went and read the Labor Standards Act http://laws.cla.gov.tw/eng/flaw/FLAWDAT0201.asp but did not find any mention of night shift bonuses.

It surprisingly does talk about overtime in details though.

So if a clear law on overtime is not respected anywhere, what are the chances an unmentioned night shift bonus will be enforced? Not very good... :ponder:

Here's what the CLA told me about night bonuses:

勞動基準法施行細則第7條規定,勞資雙方應於勞動契約中約定工資之調整、計算、結算及給付之日期與方法有關事項。另該法並無夜間工作應加成給予工資或津貼之規定,宜由勞資雙方約定。

I can't understand everything, but it basically seems to be whatever your employer and you agree upon. So, bye bye 50% :(

Sounds like a really boring job...I hope you are getting paid more than 40k/month. Find out what the Chinese-Ney-Years bonuses are like. If there are performance-based bonuses, try to ask an employee if they ever give them out. I found out recently that the company I work out never gives out the performance bonuses and says they are in the red year after year

Probably, but it pays the bills, and it's legal!
