TELL me that's a rhetorical question, laddie.
No, I'm serious. It's been suggested in this thread and others that it's more likely for (seemingly hetero) guys to get excited about the idea of two women getting sexual with each other than for (seemingly hetero) girls to get excited about the idea of two guys getting sexual with each other. Remember the excitement over the
Britney/Madonna kiss? Of course that was just the tip of the iceberg and the media is constantly titillating us with hints of sexy lesbians. But of course Hollywood hunks would never dare play that game as it wouldn't excite their fans but confuse or repulse them.
Poagao is right, there is a double standard regarding heteros feelings with respect to male and female homosexuality. I was just positing a theory why that might be and I'd be genuinely curious to hear other attempts to explain it.
Here's another possible theory. Pardon my bluntness. Men's sexual organs are hard and penetrating, womens' soft and accomodating. Perhaps more men fantasize about lesbians going at it than women fantasizing about gay men, to answer Battery9's question, because if it's a real fantasy it likely involves the dreamer also participating and many women may feel sex with one dick is enough, more than that might be a little scary, or painful, and might involve being anally penetrated, something many women are a little squeamish about; whereas for a guy if you add more women to the equation there's no fear of being painfully penetrated, just more tongues, breasts, vaginas, ie., softness and gentle accomodation.
And here's a third theory. The world is overwhelmingly patriarchal and heterosexual, so straight men generally dictate the social norms and the content of media, advertising, entertainment and everything else.
I think there may be some merit to all of these theories. Are they so wacky? Why do you believe the world was titillated by the Britney/Madonna kiss and all its imitators but will never see a Pitt/Clooney kiss?
