Toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulphate

Postby Joesox » 21 Apr 2012, 12:09

Any suggestions for a locally obtainable toothpaste that doesn't contain sodium lauryl sulphate? I need it to avoid mouth ulcers and because I don't like the idea of washing my mouth out with soap.

Thanks in advance.

Try the organic food stores. I have a nice source in Shulin without unpronounceable chemicals nor fluoride and it's made in Taiwan.

I'm pretty sure Jason's has one of the Australian herbal toothpastes.
I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific.

I heard sodium luareth sulphate is bad for skin/mouth/etc. but since that's the soapy component of any shampoo, toothpaste, and body shampoo, what else can you use as a cleaning agent?

Thanks, everyone! I got some Nature's Gate toothpaste from the shop Icon mentioned.

@Taiwan Luthiers, I read that sodium lauryl sulphate is just put in toothpaste to make it foamy, not as the main cleaning agent.

Baking soda, vinegar....whole bunch of stuff.

Salt is good. Was once considered good enough as currency.

Sensodyne Pronamel (available everywhere here--Wellcome, Watson's, Carrefour) does not contain SLS. I used to get lots of mouth ulcers, and after I switched toothpastes I almost completely stopped getting them.

Thanks for the tip about Sensodyne Pronamel. I will try that as I'm in the same boat: plagued with mouth ulcers since I was a kid. I've found that using a mouthwash (Listerine or generic alternative) after brushing helps a lot, too. I still get a few ulcers but they don't last long and aren't as painful.
