Just be careful. I have heard horror stories of how the local realtors will f^%k you over.
Jesus Quintana: Let me tell you something, pendejo. You pull any of your crazy shit with us, you flash a piece out on the lanes, I'll take it away from you, stick it up your ass and pull the fucking trigger 'til it goes "click."
The Dude: Jesus.
Jesus Quintana: You said it, man. Nobody fucks with the Jesus.

Mr.Lahey: The shitabyss!
Randy: Mr. Lahey, not another night of the shitabyss, please?!
Mr.Lahey: Ah, fuck it.

It happens (and not only in Taiwan). But isn't there that Argentinian saw, "it takes two to part a fool and his money"...?

Where in Taiwan? (there are many cities here).

And you will NOT get fucked over if you do a few simple things:

1. Pay NOTHING (nothing, nothing, NOTHING) until you sign the lease.
2. Pay the realtor half a month's rent as their payment, which is standard (but refer to rule 1 for when to pay them)

simple as that.

A country-wide agency might be best, failing that, any other agency will be useful - this is just the first rolling pebble that may become an avalanche (if the location is not right for some reason, they probably know someone who knows someone who is in a "more right" place. )
And you will NOT get fucked over

I think so, too.
First of, in Japan we never pay realtors until deals have been signed, and I don't see anybody who is with me in this situation in a position to deviate from that approach. And, anyway, if some kind of deal in Taiwan becomes possible it will involve others beside me (I am really only the messenger  )

Thanks for the info - maybe there is more... :)

Hmmm, well, you might also want to check that the person you sign the lease is in fact the (sole) true owner and has not already leased it etc if this is any kind of commercial lease.
