Do foreigners get deported after they finish their sentence here? And are they ever allowed back in?
I knew a guy got busted here years ago, but I imagine he would have tried to stay here if he could...

Are you worried he's coming after you?

It depends on the crime.
If it is drugs possession the Canadian is in trouble for, then depending on the seriousness of the crime it is possible to do rehab and be let go, back into the folds of society.
Other cases depend on factors such as type of crime, visa type, residence status, whether you are married or have family here - that kind of thing. I think it is basically the prosecutor who will push for deportation upon the conclusion of a successful case - and they nearly always do, and it is at the prosecutor's discretion to withdraw his or her request for deportation due to extenuating circumstances of the defendant, or it is up to the presiding judge to consider deportation based on final sentencing.
Upon sentencing, they will say whether you are going to be deported or not.

The guy got busted for a Romeo scam. When last i heard (from cable TV report), he'd just been arrested, so no idea if they found him guilty, or of what. The news report suggested he might be a bigamist, or that he might be in trouble merely from having to promised to marrry various women. In the West I imagine it would be a non-crime, but not so here in Taiwan...
