Consumer protection law 7-day refund

Im aware that the consumer protection law in Taiwan allows a 7 day refund window for goods purchased over the internet, however does this also apply to goods sold at a retail store?

I purchased some earphones from an Apple reseller and they mentioned that i cannot return it, saying there is a sign saying store does not take refunds, only exchange. I said thats ok, but can you give me store credit so i can make a purchase at a later date? They would not allow this and wanted me to exchange the item on the spot, and also need to purchase a more expensive item.

I am wondering what i can do about this?

I guess it depends on whether something was wrong with them or not, why were you trying to return?

I had a similiar problem once in MOMO, with a cell phone cover.
They mentioned, "no refund or exchanges on cell phone accessories" etc etc, after which i responded the law states 7 days, to which they had no response, and just gave me my money back
I am not certain on the details regarding the law, and if a sign stating "no refunds", exempts the business from the law. So not sure if they were trying the old trick of just send the foreigner away as he does not know anything, or if me stating the law stumped them.
Come to think of it maybe they just decided to avoid a scene and give in, or avoid having to argue with me in english

Carrefour allows 7 days refund for almost everything except things like nail clippers. I was told once (hope I understood correctly) that unopened electronics could be returned with in a month.

@super, i didnt like the sound of the earphones

@isha, it makes perfect sense to not accept underwear or nail clippers, and i guess im wondering what type of products fall into that category, in my case earphones. If the guy had said, we cant refund earphone because its not hygienic i can understand that, but he said its fine to exchange as long as i paid the difference for a more expensive product. Not letting me have store credit is also a problem because I would have to make another purchase decision on the spot.

@madracer, lucky for you, but it makes sense for a cover, it doesnt have any problems regarding re-sale of the item, yet they still tried to prevent you from returning the item.

I guess im stuck with them, oh well

Actually earphones should not be refundable if used... but it's Taiwan . Store credit does not exist here to the best of my knowledge. I tried it once, didn't work. Just buy anything, not only earphones, you can buy anything in return like USB, not the food items though.

The seven-day return period applies to mail order, door-to-door, and online purchases. The right is found in Article 19 of the Consumer Protection Act. It does not apply to in-store purchases and my understanding is that each brick and mortar retailer may set their own return policy.
