I am a US citizen married to a Taiwanese. We live in Taiwan. My wife is pregnant and will be giving birth to a baby boy soon. Do we need to apply for ROC citizenship for him? I thought that by law we had to. My wife says we don't. Do you know? Any useful links?

I would think that if the child is born in Taiwan, to a Taiwanese parent, then all the normal obligations of ROC citizenship would apply. That's at least how I understand it. My son will be 17 in the year 2017, which means I plan on him being as far away from here as possible by that time.

You have to do it earlier than that, mate. They have a cut-off date at when 12 or 14, where your boy will have to leave, if not he won't allowed to.

No worries, my son is already signed up, as in citizenship. The school of the nazi band. Much the same as I felt upon getting fingerprinted not 30 mins after getting married.
I would like my son to serve in the military, just not that of what remains of the ROC in 1o or 11 years. Unless of course if he wanted to, which of kors is a whole nudder biscuit....
