Tigerman posting in red all the time

Postby Mucha Man » 09 Feb 2012, 00:52

It's bad manners and discourages debate. Here's an example if anyone doesn't know what I am talking about.

viewtopic.php?f=86&t=105131&p=1394550#p1394550

Just because Tigerman is a mod, and mod of IP, this shouldn't be tolerated.
“Everywhere else in the world is also really old” said Prof. Liu, a renowned historian at Beijing University. “We always learn that China has 5000 years of cultural heritage, and that therefore we are very special. It appears that other places also have some of this heritage stuff. And are also old. Like, really old.”

One always has the option of NOT reading his posts.

Of course that would be denying oneself of his eloquence and wit.

No, we do not have that option. He's a mod. We can't ignore his posts.

Course you can. You have a scroll button. Personally I think he should be using tie-dye.

It's a simple matter of online courtesy not to post excessively in caps or bright colors.

Before, you said it discourages debate.

How so? :ponder:

You're a grown man. It shouldn't bother you or impede your attempts at discourse. :2cents:

I repeat, it's a simple matter of courtesy and like many discourtesies is not conducive to civil and fruitful discussion. We all know that. The fact that some of you posting here like Tigerman is not the relevant issue.

It has nothing to do with whether or not I like Tigerman.

Does BOLD bother you as well?

I see it as highlighting something he thinks is important.

Now this

:loco:

is certainly not conducive to civil debate. Yet it has been used numerous times by other mods in IP without so much as a peep from you. I guess maybe you agreed with them or liked them?

Have you been speaking with someone?

Why is it bad manners and how exactly does it discourage debate?

In my opinion, accusing an opponent of intellectual dishonesty or of being disingenuous is far more ill-mannered. :idunno:

For the record, I have used bold colors and different size font for a long time, pre-dating my times as a Moderator.

This site provides these functions and I have always assumed we are all free to make use of the same.
As it is, we seem to regard it as a positive objection to a reasoner that he has taken one side or the other. We regard it (in other words) as a positive objection to a reasoner that he has contrived to reach the object of his reasoning. We call a man a bigot or a slave of dogma because he is a thinker who has thought thoroughly and to a definite end.
