I suspect that these listening tests will simply be something kids memorise, and will almost certainly be in a multiple choice format, i.e. both completely irrelevant to any real life situation.

Still, I do lots and lots and lots of listening practice with my students, so, hopefully, they should be in good stead.

Unfortunately, the test will probably have nothing to do with what you taught them. Will they have a native speaker or will it be the classic Chinglish that we all know and love?

I'd like to know too but we won't know it until they give the exams.

According to a Chinese article, Taiwan is ranked #20 out of 30 countries on TOEFL last year...worse than SK and China. Apparently they want to improve the students' English listening comprehension ability.

So I seriously doubt that they'll give the Chinglish version on the exam (which probably means more $$$$ for buxibans).

They will give it to Wei Wei's uncle who lived in America for three months and who swears that his English is near native... Of course, the local teachers won't dare to question it...(nor do they have any idea if it is correct or not). Sounds harsh? Too freakin' bad. It is brutally honest. And yes, I have worked in the elementary school system.

I seriously wish I had a freakin penny for every mistake I found on the school exam...

Has anyone seen a test which has been 100% correct? Personally, no.

They need to start with their attitude. People in my class don't listen to a damn thing I say, ESPECIALLY young students. I write things on the board and look and point, and go slowly... doesn't matter one bit. They're all brain dead, soulless creatures.

They'll look things up I write in their stupid electronic dictionaries instead of listening to my explanation or answering my questions though... why even go to class? I can just give them a random list of words for them to translate into Chinese at home, then they don't have to come and I don't have to waste my time talking to idiots that don't care about learning.
