ELT Conferences

Postby pengyou » 27 Apr 2012, 08:04

Thanks for putting the list of conferences up. I would like to attend one of them before the end of the school year, but I am not sure which one would be more suitable. I know that they are in different parts of Taiwan but geography is not important to me. I have been in Taiwan since January and have not been anywhere for recreational purposes so would be glad to go somewhere and at least have time to take a walk.

Of the conferences left this school year:

The 3rd Annual Tzu Chi University Conference on Literature, Linguistics, and English for Specific Purposes
May 12, 2012
Tzu Chi University
Hualian, Taiwan
http://www.ell.tcu.edu.tw/esp2011.doc

The Third Tamkang International Conference on Second Language Writing
May 18-19, 2012
Tam Kang University
Taipei, Taiwan
http://www.tflx.tku.edu.tw/app/news.php?Sn=802

The 29th International Conference on English Teaching and Learning in the R.O.C.
May 19-20, 2012
Chinese Culture University
Hwa Kang, Yangming Shan, Taipei, Taiwan

International Conference on Foreign Language Teaching
May 25, 2012
Southern Taiwan University of Technology
Yongkang, Tainan County, Taiwan
http://news.stut.edu.tw/id/22004

The 15th International CALL Research Conference
May 25-27, 2012
Providence University
Taichung, Taiwan
http://www.cs.pu.edu.tw/~2012call/index.html

The Eleventh Annual Wenshan International Conference
May 26, 2012
National Chengchi University
Taipei, Taiwan
http://www.forex.ntu.edu.tw/teach/news.php?Sn=1344

2012 International Conference on Applied Foreign Language Studies
June 8, 2012
Ching Yun University
Zhongli, Taiwan

Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of material will be presented/available? Are they likely to be more theoretical? practical? mostly an excuse to sell books and materials? highly structured vs. loosely structured? I would put a premium on any conference that can connect me with teachers in Taiwan that are into Moodle. Any input is welcome.

pengyou, you asked...

I'm the creator of the list of conferences, although I'm sure I missed a few out there. Unfortunately, there's not always a lot of information about the conferences available. The two big ones (Ming Chuan University and ETA-ROC) usually have some good speakers, a mix of theoretical and practical, and (unfortunately) ETA - ROC has some advertisements for coursebooks disguised as academic presentations. Those have already passed, but the next ETA-ROC conference is in November:

I'm going to be presenting at this one in a few weeks:

The 29th International Conference on English Teaching and Learning in the R.O.C.
May 19-20, 2012
Chinese Culture University
Hwa Kang, Yangming Shan, Taipei, Taiwan
https://sites.google.com/a/pccu.edu.tw/29eltconference/

on the 20th. It will be a workshop about teaching listening, with a lot of practical ideas.

Oh, and I don't know much about Moodle, but I would love to learn. Maybe we can get someone at Forumosa to put together a workshop...

I always see the list about 2 days after the last one is accepting proposals. Do you know of any for 2013 I can submit a talk to?

I haven't had the time lately to put together a list of conferences for 2013. I'll do that some time in the next month or two...

pengyou:

I just added this conference to the list:

International Educational Technology Conference
July 11-13, 2012
National Central University
Taoyuan, Taiwan
http://www.iet-c.net/

It's not strictly about ELT, but anything related to educational technology. Might be some a good place to meet other educators who use Moodle.

Am I reading this correctly...is it 350 Euro's to register to attend this conference? If it is that expensive, what percentage of the attendees are likely to be from Taiwan?
