Chicken Fried Steaks?

Postby PapaAzucar » 22 May 2012, 14:34

I've seen batter fried pork chops and fried chicken breasts here, but I have yet to see Texas-styled Chicken Fried Steaks (beef cuts in batter and deep fried) with gravy.
Does anyone know where or if any Taipei restaurants have concocted the Chicken Fried Steak?
Thanks.

I used to know a fried chicken seller in Yung Chun market who did deep fried steak as well. No gravy but it made a change from chicken

That sounds like the "jee pie" available at all fried chicken parts stalls.. no mash and gravy though.

Isn't that called a (country) fried steak? I've never heard of the 'chicken' bit referring to beef. The Diner has them but they are BAD. Avoid!

I think that a chicken fried steak is deep fried and a country fried steak is pan fried.

Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing it on the Chili's menu, but I believe they use Australian beef.
Also, Chili's is the only place in Taipei to have Fajitas (albeit Australian beef) on the menu (I think).

I've had chicken fried steaks (a venerable southern American dish), which is beef that's breaded and fried in the manner that one would fry a chicken. Hence the name.

Similar to (and perhaps originating from) the Wiener schnitzel.
