I'm working on a new website to let users practice their Chinese. You can try out a work in progress here: http://www.readtypechinese.com

The instructions given on the site assume you want to type using pinyin, but the site itself doesn't care if you used zhuyin or pinyin to enter the content. It will however tell you if the characters you've typed are right or wrong. Let me know what you think.

Thanks! I'll give it a try :)

Do you happen to know of any videos that are subtitled in zhuyin or both traditional characters and zhuyin?

Your website rocks!

You have no idea how excited I just got from playing around with your website! :D Great job! It's been really helpful in starting to learn characters and associate them with both meaning and pronunciation. I love that you use level-appropriate sentences to help learn words in context. Thank you so much!

There are some simple Flash games here for practising typing on a zhuyin keyboard:

http://www.kiec.kh.edu.tw/typing/index.asp

Click on links D, E or F, i.e. 快打高手(-,2,3)注音.

These games focus on individual letters, which is great to start with, although it would be nice if someone knows of some games that practise whole words?

Thanks for the tips!

RichardC, you are correct that it would be nice to practice whole words. mister4to1's link to the site he created gives you the opportunity to do that while learning characters, which is pretty great. That site has become a staple in my study tools. Also there's a quizlet set of 398 syllables of chinese, which has helped me put the sounds together better (especially in dipthongs). Now I just need to find some audio to put on my iPod. It'd also be great to find some sort of game or video that helped reinforce the connection between pronunciation and bo po mo fo (or even pinyin). I did find a site that is marketed as a way to drill your tones but is also helpful for connecting pinyin to pronunciation (see below), but now I'd like a way to reinforce the tones and pronunciations in entire phrases, sentences, and conversations. One of my goals is to be able to transcribe a native speaker, because I feel like I have no hope of understanding Chinese if I can't even tell whether they're saying qing or jing.

Hi mister4to1, any chance you could share what you made with us? There seem to be lots of websites around to help with learning the Zhuyin system, but very few that focus on practising typing on the standard keyboard.

Thanks a lot!

Hey thanks. Guess I'll continue adding more lessons then (there are about 20 or so at the moment).
