Classical Chinese Reading Group

Postby John Yu » 10 Apr 2012, 15:32

Recently on the thread "ICLP worth it" there has been some talk about starting a classical Chinese reading group, with some Forumosans expressing interest. I know this is something myself and some other Forumosans have talked about for awhile, but have never actually started.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm not sure about committing to a long-term group, but I would be interested to at least meet those of you who are studying and hear about your experiences.

What if we met up this weekend on Saturday afternoon at 3 or so at the Lumiere cafe in Gongguan? (I'm familiar with the Gongguan area, but if anyone wants to recommend a different location that's OK) As a starting point we could discuss our motivations for studying classical Chinese, progress thus far, materials studied, other insights, etc.

Anyone interested? If we can get at least 3 or 4 people, then I'd be willing to do this.

I'm up for the group of course, but this Saturday PM is no good for me. I'll be bowling.

Yes, I'm also interested, but am quite busy for the next four weeks or so.

Nope. If we are going to classical Chinese, I think we must be traditionalist enough to meet in person. How about we try Lumiere in Sunday afternoon on 22 April?

Or a week night the following week?
