I personally believe losing weight is 70% about the diet and only 30% about exercising. I lost 10kg in one period simply by changing my diet (mainly cutting sugars and carbs). I did not work out at all. But if you go for a very-low calorie diet, you may have problems getting the nutrition you need.

At the moment I'm doing leangains so that I can build muscle while losing bodyfat. I was really wondering for a while if it worked since my weight has stayed pretty much the same. But I'm lifting about 30% heavier than when I started and I'm getting complimented left and right, so the bodyfat seems to be going down. The tire is almost gone, but I haven't had the chance to have my body fat reliably tested anywhere.

I have this Tamita scale that is supposed to measure bodyfat, but I'm pretty convinced that it simply does a calculation based on height and weight. If I carry a dumbbell with me onto the scale, the bodyfat increases by a lot. That doesn't seem correct to me. Does anyone know of a place that can reliably measure bodyfat? I don't mind paying for a proper measurement.

I think diet plus exercise is the best combination, just because muscle burns more calories and keeps on burning even in sedentary state. Right now, this program I am in works a lot for me because I eat every 3 hours, so I am not hungry. I haven't yet reached that plateau you hit when you are losing weight, where you cannot lose anymore or not as fast as before. I think it is because I have been exerising accordingly. In the past, the more I exercised, the hungrier I got, but on this 3 hour thing I do not feel hungry yet I eat less and less. Now I struggle to finish my lunch.

9 kilos lost and counting.

Which kind of exercise are you doing? I like roller skating very much, but if I had problems to find skates in spain (because of my foot size), i suppose that finding them in taiwan will be impossible :(

Besides, are there good places for roller skating in Taipei?

Well, I have the elliptic machine at home, to use when I watch TV. Wanna watch TV? Sweat it out.

Then I walk the dogs twice a day, which is not much but with them jumping all over the place, dodging cars and scooters, avoiding puddles and other raod blocks, well, it makes for a bit of calorie burning. Plus if I take them to the park, that means carrying 10 kilos on my back for 20 minutes or so -too much traffic on the way for them to walk.

Catxerersize works too, take cat and use as dumbbell.

As to where to skate, well, I see many people skating at Sun Yat-sen and CKS parks. Whole clubs. At Tai-Da campus, too. You'd be surprised about the skates, I think I saw a store across from Tai-Da's gym.

Thank you! I'll look into that skate shop you say (even if I doubt i can find something for my size-14 feet). If I find any, though, I'll buy them. I'm staying with my in-laws next to Sun Yat-Sen park, so I could get there and skate for a while everyday. :)

With this damned heat, i can't eat as i used to, so I think I'll be losing weight very soon...

I would imagine the bike paths along the rivers in Taipei would be ok to do with roller skates as well? If you're into long-distance skating, and not just doing tricks.

Re: Lose Weight Support Thread

Postby Rockefeller » 15 Aug 2012, 08:44

Hi folks.

Began hitting the gym about five or six weeks ago that started as a weekly thing. Now progressing to once a week, twice every second week. Unlike my previous experiences at the gym over the years (which I spend lifting weights and packing meat), I'm now mainly focusing on just running (treadmill) as I'm looking to lose fat rather than gain muscles.

Recently I decided to try the indoor tracks and I'm not sure if it's the heat, or me, the environment or the mechanics, but boy it felt worlds apart from when running on the treadmill, and I just couldn't come close to my usual 10 miles running on the tracks. It felt weird.

Anyway, glad I discovered this weight loss support thread.

Rock on...

It's been over a year since I posted in this thread. I was about 120 kg and went to a diet clinic and got down to about 100 kg. Then when I stopped taking the pills, I went back up to 120. But now I'm back on the pills and I'm losing it again. This time I didn't go to a diet clinic, I went to a psychiatrist. I'm getting treated for depression. I am back on the prozac. I seem to be posting more often now. I don't know if that's a good thing.

Hopefully, I can get my brain chemistry sorted out and stay on a healthy diet and exercise routine.
