So, what if a gay couple, say a Taiwanese national and an US national, got married legally in Massachusetts and then returned to Taiwan to live? I wonder how the Taiwan government would react to their attempt to register their married status in Taiwan?
I know this is a very old thread, but has anyone tried this? I'm curious what the reaction would be. I'm living here mostly for my relationship, but I can't get married here, thus I have no arc. I'm a US citizen...I wonder if it's worth a shot...

I know of one such couple although the foreign gentleman of the marriage in question is not a US citizen.

Mullin' over the idea, methinks it's still conceptual... we're married as long as we can stay together. When apart, it's more of a hope and promises to love as best we can.

I don't think it's legal. I know a while back a couple of South-Africans got married in South-Africa, to Taiwanese..and they could come to Taiwan and start businesses. But when my friend tried a year ago they changed the laws again.

Over the weekend I talked to another F.com poster. In conversation he mentioned that he has heard of two Taiwanese women who have a case (a lawsuit?) against Taiwan to get a marriage certificate.
His knowledge of the case was hearsay. I know I'm butchering the details here, but whatever is going on sounds like progress. Does anyone here know anything about this?

Not sure if there's anything new in Taiwan, but apparently D.C. has legalized it.
D.C. Joins Five States in Legalizing Gay MarriageAlso, for info:
While laws regarding gay marriage vary by state in the United States, other countries have clearer definitions. For example, in Europe, several countries have clear legal-marriage laws. According to an article from the BBC, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Norway, and Sweden all have legalized gay marriage. Additionally, Portugal, a primarily Catholic country, is expected to legalize gay marriage in the near future. Other countries that have done the same include Canada and South Africa.

"States that have constitutional bans include, but are not limited to, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Utah, Michigan, Virginia, Mississippi, and Georgia."
Pet peeve of mine: the phrase "include, but not limited to".

Yep, Proposition 8 was a constitutional amendment.
Way to go District of Columbia! Taiwan, what's the holdup?
