hi, hoping someone can help with this situation (or has been through it and can share their experience!)
holding dual (US/TW) citizenship now. my fiance is local taiwanese, and we are planning on getting married in august this year in taiwan (though we haven't decided yet if it will just be a ceremony, or we will actually also register for the marriage as well). we will also have a ceremony in the US afterwards.
we are planning on spending about a year back in the US (for him to meet my family and also for me to take time off work during this transition). my question, is, then, after reading about all the different visas (spouse vs fiance), which one is more suitable to get? and is it easy to do so?
so here's the facts again:
- I have dual citzenship; fiance is taiwanese
- we will have a ceremony in august (and may or may not legally register depending on which visa we apply for)
- will return to the US a month after taiwan ceremony. will have a ceremony there as well. will stay in US for about a year.
- plan is to return to Taiwan to work again; will likely live here in the future.
question: is it easier to get married here in taiwan and apply for the spouse visa to the US? how long does that actually take? or would it be easier to just have a ceremony here and apply for the fiance visa to the US?
would appreciate the help and suggestions!
