FBI Channeler Background Check Clarification

Postby hamper123 » 26 Jun 2012, 23:31

I am applying for my JFRV, but have run into a bit of a snag. Because my work ARC expires at the end of July, I needed to expedite the background check portion. After reading through this forum I chose National Background Check, Inc. They were awesome and I had my results within 2 weeks. Unfortunately it came in a form that the Consular of Foreign Affairs would not accept. They told me I needed to have the sky blue paper from the FBI and not this report that I have. I called National Background Check, Inc. and they told me that they are only allowed to give the report that they gave me.

I know that the rules are more strict for people who are applying for their permanent residency, so if I just take the paper from the FBI Channeler to the immigration office in New Taipei City, would that be enough? I was under the impression that it needed to be authenticated - but they won't authenticate my background check.

I guess my question is for others who have gone through an FBI Channeler - after you receive this report, how do you proceed. Are you able to/or does it have to be authenticated?

Thanks in advance for your help! I have a little over a month left and I'm hoping that I don't have to leave the country.

JFRV applicants do not need the FBI background check! That's only for APRC and naturalization applicants. Get a State background check instead. It's easier and JFRV applicants can use it for their applications.

That was originally what I was going to do, but I was told that the FBI Channeler would be faster so that's the background check I already have in my hand. I've called so many people and I'm still kind of stuck not sure how to proceed.

I just spoke to immigration, I was told that starting in April of this year they stopped accepting letters of good conduct from state police departments.

DO NOT USE AN FBI Channeler because those results cannot be authenticated and it is a giant waste of money and time.

I called both the Taipei NIA and the Banqiao NIA offices and got the same answer. Amazing.

Question: Can Americans still use the State background check in lieu of the FBI background check for JFRV applications?

Answer: No! As of April 1, 2012, all American applicants for a JFRV must use the FBI background check. State background checks are no longer acceptable.
