Aprc holder marrying an indonesian. Visa?

Postby real_jedi2000 » 28 May 2012, 21:52

Hi guys.
Can anyone help me on this. I am a south african living in Taiwan. I have an APRC. My fiance is an indonesian domestics helper. We want to get married soon. I am not sure about the procedures to follow. I went to the ministry of foreign affairs and I must say that they were quite rude and didn't seem to know anything thus I couldn't get much information. Must say they didn't seem very keen on the fact I said I was going to marry an indonesian.

With regards to getting married. Where would it be best to get married?
1 : south africa? If we get married in south africa, will taiwan recognize the marriage certificate?
2 : Taiwan? What procedure would we need to follow in getting married in Taiwan?
3 : Indonesia? Not sure about this one.. heard it takes quite a while there.

With regards to Taiwan recognizing the marriage, what do I need? At foreign affairs today they literally didn't give me anything... It was very frustrating.

I would like her to stay here in taiwan with me after we are married. I know there is a dependent visa. She will not be able to work on this visa but I care more that she will at least be here. At foreign affairs they were darn rude and were hinting that my intended marriage was BS and that it was me making a deal to get her here to work... which is not the case.

Can anyone help me with regards to what steps I can follow to getting this all done. 1 in terms of actually getting married.
2 in terms of what is needed and where I must go to apply for a dependent visa for her.

They lady at FA said she must apply in Indonesia for the dependent visa??? is that true???

Not sure if I missed anything here... FA said they "handle" Indonesians differently...

What is the best way to do things? go out the country, get married, then apply for a visitor visa for here and then apply in Taiwan for her dependent arc?

Sorry you are having a hard time . Its sad that Taiwan still treats people from SE Asia with disdain. They will roll out the red carpet for you if you are marrying a taiwanese (mostly because your wife being a citizen can raise hell).

I am going to marry an indonesian as well. And although I am in the USA (so not exactly same situation as you) I have a three ring circus as well.

I think you may NOT want to marry in INdo or nearby countries as (assuming shes muslim like most indonesians) you have to convert in order to marry. She cant marry a non muslim in SE Asia. That includes Singapore. Probably Thailand as well.

Could try HK and Macau tho as its relatively easy for Indonesians to get visas to those places.

Then apply for her on the basis of joining family (you). IF you get ROC citizenship then she can get an open work permit. But I think as an APRC holder she can live on taiwan with you but cant work.

Best of luck. IF shes worth it, shes worth the bother.

You know its not only extremely hard to get a tourist visa for Indonesians to the USA (unless they are rich) its also near impossible for Taiwan either.

Taiwan will allow them to visit if they already have visa for USA or Europe.

Thank you for the advice. I asked if it would be recognized if we got married in hong kong but they said no. They said it must be recognized by our home countries first . She is definitely worth the trouble. 1000% :)
