Specific Question about Onward/Return Flight Tix & Visitor Visa

Postby sinktheboats » 13 Jun 2012, 13:09

I'm going to be applying for another visitor visa while I'm in the U.S. in a few weeks. My previous visitor visa was tied to a school (I did a semester at a language center), but this visa will be a straight-up visitor visa, after which I'll live in TW and do visa runs (I work remotely).

My question is about the onward/return ticket. When does it have to be scheduled for? Within 30 days of landing? 60 days? Or just within a year? I don't mind buying my first visa run tix now, but I'm curious as to the exact required time frame that's required. I'm going to try to contact the office and ask them but if anyone knows here, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

If you have (or will be granted) a 30 day visa then it has to be for within those 30 days (for obvious reasons). Not that anybody ever checks.

Yeah, that's kind of the problem right? Theoretically I have to show them when I apply for the visa, but that means I won't know how long the visa is. Ideally I'd like 60 days multiple entry so, I suppose I could just plan on that.
Also though, it seems it's only the airline that checks the onward ticket so I suppose I could just buy the ticket after I get the visa. Hmm...

Not sure if this is against forum rules, but ....

I'm in the same situation as you, but in my case, I was not always sure where I was going next - sometimes I had a prebooked ticket, sometimes I didn't.

The times I didn't, I just reprinted the eTicket from the time before - modifying the dates to suit......

If you don't feel comfortable doing that - the safer(?) solution is to just go to a travel agency and book a ticket - you won't have to pay straight away, but can use that as your proof :discodance:
