To get an ARC under my English wife - How?

Hi,

I just got married to my English wife who works in Taiwan and has a work permit and an ARC here (I'm Swedish), we've been here for almost half a year and will stay for at least 12 months more.

I know I can get an ARC under my wife but i just don't know how.. I rather not fly to HK every three months as my wallet suffers greatly from that plus it's a hassle. Can anyone help me who has been through this please?

Ok, I got to get my marriage certificate "stamped" by the Taipei Mission in Sweden saying it's the real deal.. But then some say that I have to go out of Taiwan to apply for a visa (eventhough I get 90 days upon arrival) at a Taiwanese Mission/Trade and Economic Office before applying for my dependent ARC. Anybody been through this who's willing to share info? Nobody seems to know the answer to this, not even the ones who issue ARC's..

I believe that for ANY change of visa type, you have to leave and come back in again on the new visa, but you ought to be able to confirm this with the Foreign Affairs people. Just one of those things that helps bureaucrats justify their existence, I guess.

If you arrive on an extendable VISITOR visa (apply at TECO in your home country), you do not have to leave the country, but can change it to a dependent ARC once you are here.

If you do the 90 day no visa thing...I dunno.

Thanks guys, it seems like I have to leave Taiwan and get a visitors visa and then change it to a dependent ARC/Residence visa once all papers are in place
