Okay, so I've been hearing all sorts of different things on how to obtain an Alien Residence Card whenever I research it. Some people say that you either have to be married to a Taiwanese national, or you have to have a job in Taiwan, like teaching English or something like that.
So what do you do? Really, I was just hoping to live in Taiwan doing my own thing, but it's starting to look more and more like that's not possible.

ARC is just a document issued to foreign nationals resident in Taiwan. There can be many reasons for residence. Generally it's work, studies or marriage. Other ways would be to become a missionary or, more seriously, a local representative of a foreign company (there's a thread about this somewhere on Forumosa).
