ARC will expire 2 -3 days BEFORE new one arrives.....HELP!!!!

HI all
I have a slight problem. I have applied for my new ARC but it will only arrive about 2 or 3 days after my current ARC expires. I was told that I could ask for an extension at my local police station but I am not sure if this is true. Do I still need to make a visa run to Hong Kong?

You can get an extension for up to 90 days.. But you need to go to the immigration office.

I often jump in and help new posters, but saw the light.
Here's the info: Go to the immigration police in Banqiao or Taipei, depending on your home address (New Taipei City or Taipei City). Show them you have submitted an application to the Labout Bureau ( Yanping N. Road). THey will give you an ARC extension of up to 1 month to allow you to process the new ARC. There will be no problem if you do exactly as I said here. If you need any further directions, or more specific info then just post.

Thanks so much for the help man, I actually live in Taichung so I guess I will try and find a place closer to home. I will do a search next time, I read through a few post and saw many of them talking about visa runs. I was a bit over whelmed so just thought that I would ask what I needed. Don't panic, it'll be ok. Dress nice, be polite and explain things clearly and Taiwan immigration police are usually helpful. In this case you have heaps of leeway. Head along asap and get it resolved. Good luck, although I do find it disappointing you know of the site, have been in Taiwan more than a year, but the only time you would post is to ask for some help without doing a thorough search.

Or you could just show them the receipt for your new ARC. If you have already applied for a new one, the receipt should be good enough for those times when the police asked for it. Unless of course, you are applying for a new work permit and not an ARC. The immigration considers your ARC renewed as long as you APPLIED for renewal before it expires.

Well I have changed jobs,so my new boss tells me that she needs to apply for a new ARC and cannot just renew the old one since it was under the name of my last boss. So I can just show the receipt you say? I will probably just take all documents just to be safe

listen carefully, you haven't told the date your ARC expires, which would help, but be very wary of trusting your old boss and new to get this done in the correct time.

The basic process, even though I am unsure of the dates...
1. Get your health check done asap
2. Get your photos, photocopied passport and degree ready asap
3. Get your contract from your new school ready, to start from the same day your old ARC expires, for 1 year, minimum salary say 50k
***You might also get a cancel contract form from your old school on your last day of work, that's a side issue. See tealit.com
4. Get the new school to prepare necessary documents in Chinese (contract, others-I'm unsure exactly what they need)
5. Take them yourself a week before your old ARC expires (or make sure your new school does this. MAKE SURE OF IT, don't just trust them) to the Labour Bureau
6. Labour Bureau will (hopefully) accept the documents with 500$ fee, and give you a receipt.
7. Take this receipt to the Immigration police and ask for 1 month extension of your ARC to process the new ARC.
8. After 3-4 days, pick up the approved application from Labour Bureau and take it to Immigration Police.
9. Apply for new ARC
10. After 2 weeks, receive new ARC.

In that case, you have to apply for extension on your old ARC. And in Taiwan time, a couple of days could be anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. Which means you would be illegally overstaying for that long. Don't take your chances. Go to the immigration office and get professional advice.
