ok, a quick synopsis:
-Taiwanese Cdn living in Tennessee on a L1A work visa; going back to Taiwan to marry my sweetie in Dec 2008
-Will enter Taiwan with my ROC passport with intention of getting my national ID card; I'm 37 so no conscription worries
-I will be getting married as a "local" (so I don't have any of that crap that a foreigner would have to deal with before getting married)
-Go back to US with my sweetie after appropriate visas are obtained for her
So, a thought just hit me and thus I'm here posting this... would there be any tax implications from my quick summary of my situation? Would I have to file taxes yearly? I've NEVER had to file any Taiwanese taxes nor am I earning income in Taiwan. Reason for this post is that I understand a US citizen, regardless if he/she is a resident or not HAS to file yearly income taxes with the IRS (unlike in Canada where as long as you sever ties for tax purposes, you don't have to file)....
What say you?
