OK, here is your simplest answer if you just want a pay-as-you-go phone in the USA.

Go to Walmart. Get a "throwaway" cell phone with a pay-as-you-go setup.

For sure the best solution. Besides those Nokia will be so Retro and cool soon I think. I take one back to the uk every summer.. been a breeze with pay-as-you go and plenty of choices- even supermarkets been offering sim cards.Funny how the answer was therenall the time. Glad you. Any Taiwanese cell phone should be OK in the UK. Your standard there is 900/1800 MHz, same as Taiwan, same as the whole eastern hemisphere (except South Korea and Japan, which don't have GSM). North America and half of South America are 850/1900.

I am assuming you can simply say you are getting the SIM for your iPad that you left at home and convince them to sell it to you. Then put it in an iPhone. If you do this, you are correct, the iPhone won't have a normal cellular number, but it will have 3G internet access. Since it is connected to the internet, you can use Google Voice and Skype to turn it into a phone. People will simply dial your Google Voice number and Skype will ring on your iPhone and you do the call that way.

Yikes! What a load of pollava just to get youor iPhone to be a, eh, phone?

These fellows could be dropped, sat on, etc. They felt indestructible compared to these latest generations.
