New ADSL Issue

Here are some advices to check if you are shapped:

1) Change the port of your torrent client (Some ISP reduce the transfer rate of popular P2P ports). You can give a try by changing them.
Be sure those ports are open into your box.

If still no change,

2) In your torrent client, select the option to encrypt the connection. (deluge torrent has, utorrent should also)
and see if there is any improvment.

If yes, well it means your ISP is shapping the P2P protocol. (Could it be Deep Packet Inspection....? )

If no...your problem is somewhere else...

Hello all,

I just transferred house and got a new ISP, i also have exactly the same problem as mentioned here.
I tried attempting to fix it through changing the port utorrent uses to no avail. If someone has info on this please share

install virtualbox.
Download a Linux distribution like ubuntu 10.04. or 10.10 not higher.
Transmission bit-torrent client will be pre installed. Better, install KTorrent from the software centre.

In virtualbox, set the Network adapter to bridged. This way your linux OS guest system can set-up its own connection.
Set-up a shared folder either through virtual-box and virtual additions or through samba shared folder.
In Linux, install gufw Firewall configuration which has pre sets for file sharing software.

Last, it's more secure than running p2p on your host/main system.

Regarding the Original request; Do you have a firewall router?
You might want to ask your isp and if you do how to configure it.

The wires are too complicated for me. Do I still need to go to the ISP or is there something else I should know?

If that's all you've got, I'd say you need to contact them and tell them you're having problems sharing large files over the internet.
