Digital TV switchover and multiple tvs question

Postby Milkybar_Kid » 17 Jun 2012, 10:01

Hi,

Currently in our house we have one analogue cable tv feed that comes into the house. It is then split between 7 rooms with 7 separate tvs.

Once the digital tv switchover comes in how will this affect us? Will we need to buy 7 separate digital tv decoder boxes? None of our tvs have cable decoders built in.

Or is Mod another option? We currently have a very basic internet package from chunghua telecom. Can We got 7 MOD boxes for an additional $99 per month?

What are you doing in your house?

You can relax, Milkybar_Kid, the big change-over to digital will have no effect whatsoever on cable TV. What they are doing is stopping through-the-air broadcast of analog signals. Anyone receiving their signal through the air (like us - we don't have cable) will now need to use a digital-to-analog converter box. In fact, we've already had one for three years, so we're not affected by the change either.

But the government is pushing digital cable! Maybe they will stop the analog signal service to your TV. Already most cable companies are offering digital cable. They will give you a converter box that will allow you to watch those channels on a New HD TV or monitor via HDMI or standard composite video that you can view on your old TV.

I'm not sure the newer TV's that will have built in digital tuners will let you bypass the cable TV box for digital cable as our old analog tuners did for analog cable. They'd have to be able to accept a smart card that tells the tuner what channels you're entitled to receive.

Why do you need 7 TVs in your house?
