I believe it's actually because with Android apps, you can download, copy them to your computer, remove them from your phone and get a refund, and then install the app from your computer. You'd essentially be getting a paid app for free.

Well I don't believe for a second that this issue doesn't have a simple fix. Beyond that , how many people would actually do this? .01%?

Don't forget, we're in a country where people will line up for an hour just to get a free coffee at Starbucks.

Well CFimages, Starbucks do it (give away cheap coffee every now and then) and they still make money. But there are literally millions of apps and most of them would be far below Starbucks in the pecking order of coffee chains. I know what Starbucks tastes like so I'm willing to pay a bit more for it every now and then. I don't what a new app is going to be like beyond a few screen shots and dodgy reviews.

I haven't read much about it but if Apple can do it I don't see why Google or anybody else can't do it either. Apps are usually used to work with online content through a user ID, therefore you can block the app unless they come through an approved ID. And as I mentioned, the vast majority of apps are cheap and cheerful , designed for mobile and on the go use. I know personally if I could try out apps and cancel them I would actually start buying them again, now I couldn't even be bothered downloading apps.

I know Adam on here creates Apps for a living and has been on the record that getting people onto your user list is the key, from that you can generate the few % of paying consumers even if the majority are using the lower quality free service.

Headhoncho, for my own use, I'd take a similar approach as what you do. However in the wider Taiwan app community, I'm pretty sure most would game the system even to save a few NT$. Piracy here is the rule rather than the exception.

Can't people who are so-minded still do this rather easily within the 15-minute time limit? I don't use unauthorized apps, but it seems to me the 15-minute limit actually increases the incentive to go unauthorized: you do the download-copy-refund trick and then try the app out at your leisure. If the trial period were one week (or 24 hours) you would know in advance that you could try the app out in a relaxed manner. I guess you could go unauthorized, evaluate, and then purchase, but that's one more level of annoyance.

Well it's pretty much a moot point now anyway since we CAN'T get paid apps normally. I'm so glad I can't waste that 99nt on the app I want only to potentially find out it's crap. Thanks nameless Taiwanese official for protecting me from financial ruin.

Don't get it, the whole point is that they should be able to give a refund within 7 days. Really don't see the problem, just sorts out the wheat from the chaff.

When did you actually do this to verify that this method works?

When you're searching for something on the Web using, say, Google, put quotes around phrases that must be searched together. For example, if you put quotes around "electric curtains," Google won't waste your time finding one set of Web pages containing the word "electric" and another set containing the word "curtains."
