It's easy to use, however, till version 2.8, it supports 8 bit per color only.
The version 2.92, available in beta, supports 16/32 and 64 bit.

For daily use the 2.8 version is more than enough.

Newer versions of Gimp are more user friendly and custom mods can be developed from users. It lacks some features compared to Paintshop/Photoshop, but for most people it's good enough unless you need a software that can easily correct lens distortion (there are some profiles with Gimplensfun but they kinda suck).

The New Year has started. I guess this is too late. What you need is a kid! You can make such a card on something as simple as a free image editing program on a cell phone. Not that easy but it can be done and I have done it.
Gimp seems to be the easiest program to use to combine images.
It looks like you need to create your own documents because your computer local computer geeks can't communicate with you are can't understand your ideas.
The new Microsoft Office is actually a real powerful desktop publishing tool. I'm taking an online course and was surprised at the things it can do. If you really want to do these things yourself, purchase the right program and buy or borrow the tutorials and you will be very happy.
I'm using the "Univiersal Class" which provides great non credit course for free, if your American Public Library happens to subscribe to this service. Good luck. Please show us what you created....
