Haggling with the salesman

I'm looking to buy a fairly new (1-4 years old), locally made car. Namely a Honda CRV or of the like. Say the car is advertised for 800,000NT, what kind of starter figure should I hit the salesman with? In the UK, on a private sale, I always seemed to settle at 10% less the advertised price when either buying or selling. When browsing for cars in Taiwan, should I have this kind of discount in mind?

Your best bet is to hire sulavaca (sp?) he posts all over the auto section and one of his jobs is buying cars for people. Getting the best car at the best price. So you can try your own luck and probably over pay for a car with hidden problems or use him and get some bank repo'd car at less than the normal price with nothing wrong. Check him out.

Thanks Mordeth. I've used Jamie's (Sulavaca's) services before, and the ulterior motive behind my question was to get an idea of what kind of vehicle I can afford before taking a more realistic list to him.
Having said that, I'm going to take the new Camry Hybrid out for a test drive this weekend and might get suckered into buying one.

I like the look of the new Hyundai SUV. And I still like all the luxuries of the Luxgen SUVs.
