I don't need it to lift the bikes too, it will lift the door with the carrier but then it may stay up or it may tryto kill me. Depends on its mood.

I would typically advise to remove the rack during times you are not using it then and make do with the struts you have at present.

Anyone know if it's possible to refill those gas springs that hold up the tailgate of a car? They're filled with nitrogen, which leaks out past the seals over time.

I know this service can be found in other parts of the world. But here on Fantasy Island?

Sigh, I drove a Rodeo for over ten years and replaced every damn thing on it, including the gas shocks for the rear window. They are available aftermarket here and are reasonably priced. My mechanic was able to source them with no issue In Yangmei for about 2,000NT.

Michael, part of the problem is knowing exactly what will fit. All the units out there are pretty much the same, give or take a couple of inches of piston length and a couple of pounds of force. There are 2 or 3 different types of attachment at the ends, too. I'm pretty sure I could find something that would fit if I knew of a stockist who had, say, a dozen different kinds for sale.

I have the OEM part number and an aftermarket part number (Stabilus).

Um...bit of bamboo, cut to the optimum length, as a prop?

My gas struts are fine at the moment, but if they get tired, and/or if I get around to making a rear-hatch tent, that's probably what I'll do.
