Hit'n'Run on parked m/bike

Just a vent .

Parked bike on its center stand this morning, in a kind of small roadside lay-by. Not specifically for bikes, but off the highway and well over the side white line.
Came back to find it suspiciously on its side kickstand.

Turns out turn light and rear-view mirror on one side are completely bust, consistent with it having been knocked fully off its stand. Can't figure out how they managed to do that, given where it was parked, but someone did.

Great of them to pick the bike up.
Not so great to leave no phone-number / apology (is that asking too much?).

Yeah it is. Similar thing happened in my garage. Woke up one morning to find the indicator reflector was on the ground, obviously having first been hit by something. No note though.

In an ideal world? No.

In the real world I'd assume this is a rhetorical question.

I've had this done both by "colleages" in the school, and by neighbours back in the UK.

In both cases it was left smashed on its side, with fuel a-leaking.

On that form, a random stranger bothering to pick it up is quite a lot better than I'd expect.

Wasn't at all suggesting this was a Taiwanese-only thing, although when I ran it by my wife ("what would you do if...") her argument for running away was that if you leave a phone number, some people would take advantage of that and try and rip you off by claiming for other damages. There is some mistrust of strangers on this island...

Thats actually a really good, and valid point.

Lets say something was wrong with the engine, or even if the persons whose scooter got beat up decided just to brush it off at first, but then a week later ran a red light and hit a blue truck...who just kept going.

Now, they have your own handwritten signature, name and # claiming full responsibility. Its a good way to bend over and be made someone's pony.

Ages ago I got blamed for picking up someone's scooter. It was on it's side and I just thought I would put it back on it's stand. Some punks arrived just as I was picking it up and they demanded some cash. They eventually backed down but in another set of circumstances things could have turned out differently.
