Looking to rent a garage for my Jeep

Postby lovedavdubs » 18 Jun 2012, 13:17

Are (reasonably priced) rental garages in the Taipei area unheard of? Is there a classifieds for garage rental somewhere? I'm looking for a place to store my Jeep. I'll be getting a second daily driver car when my daughter is born in September.

Where do you live in Taipei?

Xinyi district. But it doesn't exactly have to be blocks from my apartment. I'd imagin the rent to be pretty high in this area.

The cheapest I have found is not a garage and is only a parking lot and is probably not safe. So I didn't use it. It is near Linguang Station and around $4000NT/month.

I would also like a garage to store a car long term (for a month at a time when out of town) but haven't found anything.

It's amazing that parking a car can cost as much, or more, than what some people pay for rent.

4Gs! For a lot spot! Holy crap. I could just park it in the basement of my building next to my new car for 5. There's a lot across the street from my apartment that charges 3+ per month if your still looking. Intersection of Songren Rd. and Songqin St. I need an actual garage though with a place to keep my tools and parts.

5 thousand in that district for underground parking is pretty damn good already I would say.
As far as storing tools, that can be tricky. I personally get annoyed when people store their golf clubs, tools, old shoe boxes, old wooden cabinets, chairs, roller blades, and every other messy bit of junk in the same parking area as me, but that is generally the norm in Taiwan basement parking spaces. Another part of me thinks its okay to put crap in one's own space if it doesn't affect the access, safety and health of others. I'm not sure where I stand on this one then, but different buildings have different policies on storage and parking it seems.
I remember an apartment we used to own in Zhonghe would always refuse me parking my motorcycle in the basement there where the cars could park. I still have no idea why that would make sense if I wasn't taking up any more than my allotted space. According to them the access ramp was "too dangerous" for motorcycles to ride on. :loco:
Who knows what goes through their minds at times..

If you are only seldomly using your vehicle, then are the tools few enough that they can fit inside the vehicle, and be stored that way in the same underground parking space?

Jeeps are quite often open or soft topped, and I'm not sure how secure even those detachable hardtops are. Might not be safe enough, if the tools are expensive, though generally it'd be A LOT safer here than in the UK.

2,500 near the river in Yonghe. You can park it next to mine. Guarded and undercover, and I use mine everyday so I can look out for yours.
From Xinyi it's a 20 minute ride by bike or taxi, so if you are becoming a weekend warrior that wouldn't be an issue - might still be a bit far. Depends on you.

Thanks for the offer, and I'll definetly keep you in mind, but I'm more looking for a small one car lockable garage. A place that I can pop the hood and sling tools if and when I need to (often) lol! I'm a bit of a grease monkey. Man I remember back when I was a kid I had a two car garage with electric for 150USD/month. Things were so simple back then. Do you have a Jeep? If so your more than welcome to come out with me and the rest of my weekend worrior buddies ;)
