Can we compare scooter km/l figures?

Hi,

I have a 10 year old SYM 100cc scooter. I recently recorded some figures and got a figure of 30.23km/l (or 85.26miles per gallon).

I arrived at these figures by doing the following; distance travelled -127.9km /fuel used - 4.23litres = 30.23km/l.

Does this seem right? I remember my friend telling me that small engines can easily achieve 100miles per gallon. I don't drive fast.

Anyone else got any figures to compare with?

The automatic transmission on most scooters is pretty lossy. A small motorcycle (eg Honda CB125, like a SYM Wolf), might be expected to achieve 100 miles to the (British, Imperial) gallon if un-thrashed.

I think the number depends big time on the driving style, the mileage can easily go up or down 50%. Motorcycles seem to fare slightly better. I'm getting anything from 35-50km/l 2-3l/100km) on KTR 125.

I have a 150 cc and I get about 27-30 km per liter. That is all in rush hour, stop and go traffic...If I am out for a bit of a jaunt I get about 35-40 km per liter. It's all about how much you stop and go.
If you want to try to save some gas then don't gun it like everyone else off the light. But then again, trying to be fuel conscious on a scooter is really difficult.
Remember the freeway vs. city mileage on a car? same concept.
There is only 1 cylinder in most scooter engines so that ain't bad considering it is a just a modified lawn mower engine!

That's over 200 mp(Imperial)g, so I'd say no, not in normal use.

As a hypermiling stunt on a test track, maybe.

It says "concept" which tends to mean "doesn't really exist". They couldn't sell it in Taiwan anyway, since a carburretor is mentioned in the specs, and illustrated.

I used watch these numbers pretty closely for the couple of months that my gas gauge was broken but I never recorded them. I do remember that city driving was almost always 1NT/km (or close). So my Hartford 150cc motorcycle is approximately 30km/l. This does increase by 30-50% when driving outside of the city. But those trips are rare now that I have a car.

sorry I thought you said "3 liters per 100 km" but I see it's "1.3 liters per km." I agree with Ducked: Not realistic.
