Forum rules
We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:
It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.
Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.
While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.
While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

No it's in bars, but I just chop it into chunks. Looks better that way in cookies anyhow
For comparison,
this guy sells 500g of Belgian chocolate in disk/chip form for $300 ($220+$80 shipping).

Not sure if this is old or new news (I only go to Costo about once every 4 months), but on Sunday I noticed they were selling avocados...beautiful, fatty (not watery) avocados!

Any opinions on the bedsheets from Costco? Two of mine -brought from the ol' country- dissolved in the wash yesterday, I need to buy new ones. The ones I saw in Costco looked nice though pricey. If they are good and lasting, I may pay what they ask. Any experience with them so far?

It's a complete rip-off @ City Super or Jasons paying 125-145 a bag

Ah yes, salt and vinegar chips. I prefer the Old Dutch brand we get in Canada, but Lay's will do. I remember fondly as a kid holding a salt and vinegar chip by your fingers in your mouth and inhaling deeply to cause a cough. Why, I don't know. Something we did as kids. Vinegar chip huffing I guess?

Speaking of Costco, when does the Taoyuan shop open? Should be soon.

Why is the Junghe Costco so damn ghetto?
-after you get out of your car you begin to choke because the parking lot is full of scooter exhaust (not an issue in Xizhi and Neihu)...ghetto!
-they have no escalators...wtf? really?...super ghetto!
-you can always find more expensive shit that is sold out at other Costcos (the reason I went)...so ghetto!
-people stare at you like you've all of a sudden been beamed down to Yunlin County...mad ghetto!
-you may get run over by the hordes of people rambling for a sample...wicked ghetto!
-the pizza in the canteen has fucked up portioning...ghetto style!

Pretty lame first post, but does anyone know if Costco sells "Sun Chips"...? Preferably French Onion flavor. I'm not even a big chips fan but the lack of snacks I like in TW is pushing me toward shelling out NT155 for a bag filled halfway
