Why wasn't the THSR built to stop at Taoyuan Airport ?

Speaking of station locations... why no MRT station at Sanchong Tomson Plaza on the Orange line? THOUSANDS of people work there, great airport bus connection, ... but no .... let's locate the station a XianSe Temple, 3 bus stops away, so you can exit and look at a bridge.

I agree, but I think the purpose of these exterior lines is to provide better transfer connectivity rather than direct service. That plaza area is a total mess with busses already thanks to that school next door and those lights that don't make any sense. Maybe the plan was to locate it at the intersection of a major road so people could go north on busses, scooter, whatever (check a map, there's a lot more going on slightly northwest of that area).

Then again, the more realistic answer is that they were unable to grab the land through the TW equivalent of eminent domain and/or those buildings were built so poorly that building an entire station under them instead of a tunnel just under the street would be unsafe.

2 reasons.

the first: The MRT was planned to go there all olong. Next year you will be able to ride it!

The second: The HSR and it's stops are intended to bolster economic growth: Condos and commerce. No one wants to live at the airport.

I think this is right, the idea of the HSR was to join cities, not service the airport. In fact, one of its functions has been to free up traffic at Sungshan (Songshan) airport (by making many domestic flights redundant) for Mainland and now international travel. Before the HSR Sungshan (Songshan) Airport was cocked up all day with flights to Kaohsiung, Taichung, Tainan etc...

There will be an airport shuttle that should work fine, but it is also important to note that HSRs and MRTs were planned decades ago, so buildings and other renao difangs that have transpired since cannot be accounted for, and cannot be served by the MRT. It is likely those places went up in those specific areas because the developers refused to pay top dollar for the future MRT satation locations.
