Forum rules
We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:

It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.

Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.

While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.

While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

Taiwanese super tight underwear

Postby Rabidpie » 27 Apr 2012, 16:32

Recently there was days of rain and I hadn't washed any clothes. Before that I was too busy and hadn't washed any clothes either.

I looked for any remaining fresh undies this morning and to my horror I realized that the only clean boxers I had left were the two Taiwanese ones I had bought months ago. These "boxers" are so tight it feels like I'm being chocked down there. Not to mention they look very disturbing.

I had bought the largest size possible and even then they are extremely tight. I hope I don't have to defend myself from accusations of being overweight because I can guarantee you all that I am not, it's just these boxers are super tight.

The lesson learned is know what type of underwear you are buying when you buy them at Family Mart or other convenience stores. Why did I buy them at the convenience stores some of you might be wondering? Well I was travelling at the time and needed clean clothes.

Local underwear and socks are non-starters, total crap. You should plan ahead.

Even funnier are the "Free size" items, my GF was looking at bras at a store and they had "free Size" bras LOL yeah all women are the same size, same with socks and underwear. And don't even get going on clothing stores that do not allow you to try on clothes like pants etc I am sure they sell so much more with this policy LOL

Even I forgot that Asian sizes are not the same as Euro sizes. Bought a nice Polo shirt in Indonesia recently . L size which is my size. But when i put it on back in the US of A. I nearly couldnt take it off. I almost resorted to cutting it off it was so tight.

Turns out it was what we would say was a Medium (at best, possibly a Small).

In Asia, you need to specify at least one size larger than what you normally wear in the States... I wore Large T shirts in the States but in Taiwan I can't wear a large T shirt because it's smaller.

It gets confusing because I found a store in Ximending that sells metal band shirts at US sizes, that means L fits me just fine while XL would be oversized. It seems they were intended for the US market (made in Thailand) and that store somehow got ahold of them. Really cheap too, the same shirt would cost around 1000nt in the States.
Cat-gut strings are made from kitten guts, stretched out to near breaking point and then hardened with grue saliva. As a result these give a feeling of Pain and anguish whenever played, and often end up playing themselves backwards as part of satanic rituals.
