Forum rules
We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:

It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.

Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.

While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.

While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

Can anyone translate?
This was sent to us from a neighbor because, apparently, our street is going to be featured on the show

Basically: CNN broadcast of six or seven shorts, on Wednesday at 5:30. Can't be seen in the US. Reprise on Friday and during the weekend.
They asked:
What kind of pinyin does CNN use?

Presumably it can be watched but on Internet only? What else would be the point sending CNN ? odd.

No, you can watch it in Taiwan because it'll be on CNN Asia, but it won't be broadcast on CNN US.

That's 5:30 pm, with many repeats during the weekend. I'll program the ol' DVR. One hour should suffice.

Yeah, it is weird it will only be broadcast on Asia. It is like Anthony Burdain's visit or that other Weird food guy, even Samantha Smith on TLC. If I was the Taiwanese govt, I'd be playing that up non stop like CSI reruns. Even the real Amazing Race, done here in Taiwan. How many times has anyone seen that on TV? I've caught them once.

Actually this program just aired on 1730pm in CNN.
However, if you're still interested in this program, and you know Chinese, check CH52 tonight!
As far as I'm concerned, this news channel gonna edit it into mandarin-speaking coverage!!
Enjoy it!!

The guy with the guitar singing a song about how beautiful Danshui is...

But I like the fact that they show how happy and vibrant the place is. Lots of smiles all around.
