We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:

It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.

Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.

While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.

While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

NTNU 2012-2013

Hi guys!

I've been accepted for exchange studies at NTNU Autumn 2012 through spring 2013 and I am therefore interested in hearing about what other people from here I might come across during my stay.

I also have some NTNU-specific questions, so if someone on here is studying at NTNU and has any information about it I would be very happy :)
My admission letter says that I can choose freely from all courses for which the pre-requisites are met. This makes me think, for my masters degree I only need credits from about half of the courses I will study during my years stay. I will therefore have some room for studying things I think are fun, my questions therefore is: Is it possible to take a course in some kind of sport (preferably gymnastics or wushu) and get credited for it? What would the pre-requisites be in a case like this?

In the case I cant take courses like that, do someone on here have any information about where in Taipei I can practice either contemporary wushu or gymnastics?

I will also take some language courses at MTC, right now my chinese is non-existant, how much chinese do you think I can hope to learn from being in taiwan for a year?

I met some of the Taiwanese exchange students from NTNU coming to my university in Sweden. They are in the same field as I am and they told me I'd probably be staying in the Gongguan campus, but when I accepted my admission offer I was only able to choose between the main campus and the Linkou campus. Is Gongguan only for natives?

Hope someone can help :)
/Daniel
