Forum rules
We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:

It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.

Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.

While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.

While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

This thread is open to anyone ...

I would like to start this thread separate from the daily pics thread simply because some people might be intimidated by the images shown there ... mobile phone pics don't need to be high quality but try to make original, fun, special, daily life pics ... so that people worldwide can get a feeling of the ordinary Taiwan ...

BTW, I got a used hand-me-down Nokia with camera ...

Here's a start ...

Image

A butcher at the local night market, sharpening his knife, ready to cut me up as he doesn't like to have his picture taken ... I just did it sneaky anyways ...

Image

Greasy oil dumplings ... I always was disgusted by the way they are prepared ... boiled, not fried in oil and they are dripping with oil as they get cut up ... they are meat filled ...

Busy wet market in Sanxia ...and it was wet (raining) ...
The good thing about a mobile phone is that it's fast to make pics ... I wouldn't take out my dslr in rainy weather ...

Love this thread!!! Very nice. Some real everyday culture. The other photo thread is awsome, but the artists have it, ya know? This stuff looks more like my life in Taiwan really felt.

Those are great shots for cell phones (though BP, I still miss your other shots). sandman, does your wife sell that bread? Because I would certainly buy some.

Great pics and that bread is to die for. And here I am in bloody HK and I don't get bread that good. WTF? Talk about a rough trade.

Any chance of getting the recipes? (Seriously.) Those loaves look delicious.

July 2014 - Absolutely hysterical, this photo is now on the Snopes.com website! http://www.snopes.com/photos/food/bonelesspork.asp

I certainly never imagined my fame and fortune would thus appear, haha.
