Daily Photos - Part 13

Forum rules
We hope that the Living in Taiwan forum will be of value to you and others. To ensure this, please note:

It is best to capitalize topics and to avoid vague titles. “Hi, I’m new” and “Help please” are examples of bad titles.

Before posting, please check the FAQ thread, and – more importantly – use the search function to ensure that your topic has not been discussed before and that there is not an existing thread you could update with your contribution.

While Living in Taiwan is a busy, wide-ranging forum, there are other specific forums for relationships, teaching, business, legal issues, animals, food, events, travel, restaurants, and so on. Check the Forumosa menu to find the most appropriate place for your post.

While it is preferable to post questions dealing with dissimilar topics in separate threads (“How Much for an Apartment in Tianmu?”, “Are There Many Foreigners in Tianmu?”), if you are a new arrival, it is possible to present numerous questions in one post, but realize that your thread will then, after two weeks, be merged into the New to Taiwan: Some Questions thread.

First of all I would like to say I'm a shitty photographer and all I have is the camera built into my iPhone 3G. I just whip out my phone whenever I see something good.

Something outside the Grand Hotel today:

As the sun was setting, and I saw some passenger jet flying overhead, and the sunset was catching its smoke trail. It made me miss home a lot.

One thing you can do is use a simple program to add contrast to your photos. It was part of the windows photo viewer on my netbook (Windows Vista IIRC).

Here's a photo from my new apt. I started moving a little today. I was actually standing on my bed platform with a tripod.

I used a different program (GIMP - free but a little complicated) and only adjusted the contrast, brightness and lightness of your photo quickly. Your original was overexposed so I darkened the photo (using contrast, brightness and lightness) which makes the dragon stand out more. for other photos you can adjust the saturation (brighter colors) or slightly adjust the hue (changes the color). these are all available in the most basic photo editing software that is probably already on your computer.

Thanks Abacus!

I use Ubuntu every day at work. I'll download GIMP and give it a whirl.

That's awesome. I spend futile time in the gym trying to get trim. This guy's ripped from doing real work.

yeah, changing contrast is awesome, many phones have an 'edit' option while you are viewing your photos, just crop a little, change the contrast...and you've got yourself a much better pic

Nice job on the processing but the original wasn't overexposed, it was pretty much spot on. :D

If any new arrival needs assistance in Taipei, I can provide it in exchange for Star Trek or Supernatural (the TV series) stuff or other sci-fi materials. Let me know what help you need by PM, along with what you have to offer in return. And yes, I am serious.
