I wasn't being a smartass (or a dickhead). I was trying to help you. You know the old saying... Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.
As it is, we seem to regard it as a positive objection to a reasoner that he has taken one side or the other. We regard it (in other words) as a positive objection to a reasoner that he has contrived to reach the object of his reasoning. We call a man a bigot or a slave of dogma because he is a thinker who has thought thoroughly and to a definite end.

Can anyone answer this question?

Can you be born outside the US and qualify as a "natural born citizen"? The underlying assumption of the birther movement that those born outside American soil but with American parents are not "natural born citizens" appears unreasonable. So a person born in the US to two non-citizen parents qualifies as a "natural born citizen" but a person born overseas to American parents does not? Wouldn't a more reasonable interpretation of "natural born citizen" be "American by birth", qualifying Obama on the basis of his mother's citizenship irrespective of place of birth?

The issue has never been settled.

However, I never had a problem with Obomber's citizenship because I believe that a natural-born US citizen is a person who is a citizen at birth due to either birth in the US or US territory or US military base or consulate overseas or due to birth to at least one US citizen parent. People who are US citizens by either of these ways do not need to be naturalized. My wife acquired US citizenship by virtue of her marriage to me, and she had to be naturalized in order to become a US citizen.

Some people, however, claim that even a person born on US soil is not a natural born citizen if neither of his parents are US citizens. There are all types of opinions out there and there is a lot of stuff on the www if you are interested.

I was born in Taiwan but apparently I can run for PRez because my dad was an active American citizen Marine at the time of my birth. That qualifies me as "American born" .

Birthers are a minority group within the conservative movement that continue to believe President Obama was not born in the US and is ineligible to be POTUS. Birthers apparently rejection the notion that a person born outside the US to American parents can be considered a natural born citizen. Birthers are overwhelmingly white conservatives.

Tigerman has asked the question why white conservatives are willing to vote for black conservatives. The better question is, are the minority of white conservatives who are Birthers willing to vote for black conservatives? I doubt anyone here has the answer to that question. It is rather suspicious, however, that those who continue to believe President Obama is ineligible to be POTUS, despite repeated proof to the contrary and zero proof in favor of their argument, are overwhelmingly white conservatives. Like Tigerman, I think the "racist" label gets tossed around far too easily. But it is hard to believe there is no element of racism in the Birther movement.
