Hi appa,

Hsinchu can be a harsh city to make friends in, especially if you don't look in the right places. So far, I've seen a ton of great suggestions. I'll add a few more.

For social drinking and dancing:
Red Bar located on Minzu Rd. 33-55, is a great place to meet foreigners, particularly English teachers.
Barfly located on Ren'ai St. and Zhongyang is also a popular destination for foreigner English teachers.
PLUR night club: On the corner of Beida Rd. and Xida Rd. is a good place to meet foreigners of both English teaching and otherwise, especially on the weekends.
If you are close to Science Park, check out N2 near the Royal Hotel on Guangfu and Jieshou, a ton of foreigner engineers go there.
Night in Tokyo Bar: Zhongzhang Rd, near the East Gate, across from the Mos Burger.

I'd recommend these places if you just want to go out and meet people (foreigners) randomly and have a drink.

Other than that, FB pages are your friend, such as Hsinchu Foodies and Hsinchu Sports Page. The largest Hsinchu FB page is Hsinchu Teacher English Forum.

Good luck!

I doubt you can make any friends there, my cousin use to work at Taiwan Semiconductor, they work over 16 hours a day same goes for most of the gals there. Unless you like those Taiwan KTV beer bars with chicks it is hard to meet anybody there:D, just move to Taipei.

There are a lot of nice girls in Kaohsiung but they won't be seen dead with a foreigner. Tons of foreign guys with girlfriends in Taipei, but Kaohsiung is a dating graveyard :D

But I think you are Taiwanese so is it really that difficult to meet one of the thousands of cute girls roaming around here?

One man's desert is another man's oasis !! I loved Ktown. The girls are SOO FRIENDLY. Id not have any trouble finding girls to befriend in Ktown. NONE.

You havent been going to the right places or need a new approach. OR lots of new approaches. Or you have to change your target .

Try girls working at cafes like starbucks. They are VERY FRIENDLY .

Yes it may be a one night stand graveyard thats true. Most of them are in for keeps, but if thats what you want, i bet there are party girls there too. Of course more in taipei as thats party central in Taiwan.

You gotta be blind or kidding about the girls in Kaohsiung. 90% of the foreign guys here have Taiwanese girlfriends and there certainly isn't a stigma for a large chunk of them to be with foreigners. In fact, it's incredibly easy to find a local lass here.

There is nothing wrong with watching a movie by yourself... I've done that here in taiwan and I've learnt that where ever you go, you just need to get over yourself, stop making people feel sympathy for you and just do it and get on with your live.
