You need a new religion! Just write down the names of 10 or 20 different ones, then pick one out of a hat, and presto! New friends.
(Sinners: substitute bars and nightclubs.)

And I'd be very interested in hearing what you have to say about the Black Volga." --Red Ned Lynch, responding to "scientific" explanations of the 1908 Tunguska event in the Talkbacks of Ain't It Cool News

I am actually agnostic. I was raised as a buddhist/taoist, but I converted to Christianity in high school only to realize years later that it wasn't for me.
@cranky- Is there a contact I can get in touch with for the "Jack's 7/7 Birthday Happy Hour"? I feel kind of weird and rude to crash someone's birthday celebration without any acquittances.

It's open to anyone who's interested. I guarantee you'll have a good time if you go. I know I always do. I'll be there starting at around 9pm, more or less.
I think there's probably not as much to do in Xinzhu, but there's definitely places to meet people if you get out there and give it a try.

Haven't heard of THAT one, but I guess we all believe in the same God!

Check out the university courts in Xinzhu with a ball and a pair of basketball shoes. It can get pretty competitive but players of lesser skill seemed to be welcomed. After a few months playing, you'll probably get better, too.
You could join an evening class. I bet there are a lot of interesting ones. That's something I've been wanting to do.

At least in Taipei, you will quickly discover the players of your skill level to play with. Most courts have 4-8 hoops with 3-on-3 games. Usually there are people playing that are not that good.

Hi! I feel the same way!! I just moved back here a month ago and really haven't met any new friends... I'll be here until November. Any suggestions for me? I'm 27, female living in Taipei.. I saw there were mentions of scuba diving. I brought my basic gears with me, but haven't found any one to go diving with me or even where to go. If there are anyone interested, let me know!! appa, let me know if you ever want to hang!

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. ... [Mod note: question on guitar lessons moved to its own thread in WCIF]
@purejunie- YEA! Let's definitely hang out. You can be the first friend I make in Taiwan haha. I am actually going to Taipei today, and I am probably going to try/crash that happy hour birthday thing later tonight to meet some people. I see that you are living in Taipei, would you like to go? I'll PM you my email and my cell so you can get in touch with me if you are interested.

Get onto some of the Hsinchu FB pages; there are a LOT of activities going on, and there's even an ultimate frisbee group. If you need more info on the groups, PM me.
