White girls dating Asian guys?

Postby aceman » 16 Aug 2012, 14:40

Hello, I'm curious to see what the dating mentality of white girls in Taiwan is. Here's a few simple questions for the white ladies on this forum:

1) Have you dated Asian guys while living in Asia, and if so how was your experience?
2) If you have dated Asians, did you genuinely wanted to pursue serious relationships with them, or was it more like just flings due to a "lack of options" or "boredom/loneliness" in Asia?
3) Have you dated Asian guys in the West, before you moved to Asia? Would you date Asian guys if you move back to the West now?
4) Have living in Asia changed your perception of Asian guys, positively or negatively?
5) Any difference between different types of Asians, ie Taiwanese, Mainlanders, Koreans, Japanese, Asian-Americans, etc?
6) Do your white female friends in Asia date Asian guys? What about your female friends back home in the West?

Simple?

You're new at this, aren't you?
As it is, we seem to regard it as a positive objection to a reasoner that he has taken one side or the other. We regard it (in other words) as a positive objection to a reasoner that he has contrived to reach the object of his reasoning. We call a man a bigot or a slave of dogma because he is a thinker who has thought thoroughly and to a definite end.

Your OP seems agenda driven.

There are plenty of 'shwai ges' here in Taiwan, what is to stop a white girl, I know more than a few who have, and that is likely a high percentage, because the amount of girls who stay here long term single are few and far between, it takes a special girl to set up camp in a traditionally male dominated society where so many of the males that they share a heritage with are attracted to the local women.

We become attracted to what surrounds us, it is human nature, so it only makes sense that white females would date Asian guys.

Agenda?? Um no. Paranoid much?

I'm an asian-american guy who has not really been interested in white women, until recently, hence the questions.

Sorry, aceman. Forumosa is mostly cranky men sitting at desk jobs. The women folk mostly have enriching, wholesome, exciting lives. Give it a few days, there will be women around to post.

1) Yes. Sometimes good, sometimes not so great.
2) I was genuinely interested in serious relationships.
3) Yes, I did, and yes, I would.
4) No, I don't think my perception of Asian guys has changed.
5) Yes, in general, I think there are cultural differences and sometimes physical feature differences.
6) Yes, my white female friends in Taiwan date Asian guys. Back home, too, but there are not so many Asian guys at home, so it happens less often.

I have no idea what this information is supposed to do for you, but here it is.

Hey Aceman, I'm a 24-year-old white girl living here and I'm happy to help you out.

1. No, I have not.
2. Haven't dated any Asians, but in general I never date anybody, period, simply because of "lack of options" or "boredom/loneliness". I date either due to genuine interest or because the person at least seems fun and attractive.
3. I haven't dated Asian guys in the west, but I would if I met one that I clicked with.
4. Living in Asia didn't really change my perception of Asian men as much as form it (I didn't really have too many preconceived notions before coming here.) A lot of Asian American guys, in my experience, are awesome- super fun to be around, accomplished, reasonably fit, smart, outgoing, all that. Asian guys from Asia, though, I find tend to be far too effeminate and shy for my taste (I'm drawn to masculine, confident, men). A lot of them just come across as childish and I actually get the distinct impression a fair number of them aren't even that interested in women or sex. A lot of the ones that do have girlfriends seem to be dating more out of obligation or a sense that they "should" than actual desire.
5) Yes. Japan broke my gaydar. I honestly couldn't tell whether the majority of the guys around me were straight. They are super into "fashion" and very foppish. I will say though that they tend to be very clean and well-groomed, which is a plus. Haven't met many Korean guys or mainland Chinese. Taiwanese guys are also into "fashion" but are still noticeably less foppish than Japanese guys, and tend to have a more traditionally masculine range of interests. Both Taiwanese and Japanese guys seem to be shy. Asian American guys are different from all of the above like I mentioned in #4.
6) I have several white friends who date Asian guys here and back home.

1) Have you dated Asian guys while living in Asia, and if so how was your experience?
Yes. Conclusion: each relationship has been with a remarkable, unique individual. They had their good points, and breakdowns due to the ususal suspects -communication, goals, habits, etc- have not strayed from the average.

2) If you have dated Asians, did you genuinely wanted to pursue serious relationships with them, or was it more like just flings due to a "lack of options" or "boredom/loneliness" in Asia?
Both serious and flings. Nope, no lack of options, and heck, what boredom. :loco:

3) Have you dated Asian guys in the West, before you moved to Asia? Would you date Asian guys if you move back to the West now?
Yes, and yes. But I was hoping to export one if I move.

4) Have living in Asia changed your perception of Asian guys, positively or negatively?
Well, it has provided me with more information. Certainly, Overseas Asians are far more conservative, IMHO. I think mostly I have grown a more positive outlook.

5) Any difference between different types of Asians, ie Taiwanese, Mainlanders, Koreans, Japanese, Asian-Americans, etc?
Different degrees of what they think the role of women is. I still prefer Taiwanese. mainlanders are more masculine, true, haven't dated one yet to have more data. Most handsome are Japanese, agreed. Asian American and Korean seem a bit cocky to me.

6) Do your white female friends in Asia date Asian guys? What about your female friends back home in the West?
Yes, and yes. Many ending up in marriage, with differents degrees of success.

Let me preface my response by mentioning I don't actually live in Taiwan, but am planning to study abroad there in a year and am very familiar with the culture.

1. No, I have not dated an Asian guy while in Asia.

2. I like very few people and don't bother to pursue someone unless I am very interested. That being said, the few pursuits I've had in my life have been on Asian men (some Cambodian, some Korean, mostly Chinese). I genuinely wanted a serious relationship in each case; I don't see the point of flings.

3. All of the Asian guys I've dated have been here in the States. I dated a South Korean guy who was not at all Americanized (only here for a year, spoke conversational English), as well as a Taiwanese who lived her for a while and was semi-Americanized. He was much older than me and wanted to settle down, which was the main reason for our break up. The rest of the Asians I've dated were very Americanized. I identify more with Asian cultures, particularly with Chinese and Taiwanese. Growing up, my best friend was from Mainland, and I became very close with her family and her culture. That's why I would pick an Asian guy over white guy most days. =P

4. Again, haven't lived in Asia. When dating FOB guys, though, I find it changes my perception positively. There is sort of a social stigma in America. Girls have chips on their shoulders a lot of the time and are so torn between trying to find themselves and making themselves attractive towards men since feminism that relationships can sometimes be a mess. And of course, American guys really don't think they owe anything toward girls at all and are generally lazy and rude towards them, from my experience, not treating them like ladies at all. Both sides are at fault. However, especially when dating the Taiwanese guy, I found the traditional roles to come into play more often, but it was very natural. There were no preset expectations between the two of us and we just fell into a very natural relationship.

5. LOTS of differences between the Asians from different regions. Like I said, I primarily date Chinese/Taiwanese. These difference stem back from history, as well as recent events. The Korean guys I've known have been a bit too soft-spoken and quiet for me. Chinese tend to be more receptive toward my outgoing personality, haha. It also helps I speak some Chinese, so I am able to have more comfortable conversations.

6. 99% of my white female friends would never date an Asian guy, period. Sorry. =( I know it's harsh, and there are definitely exceptions. I don't really understand. I think it's just a matter that people tend to date what they're used to. They don't know the language, they don't understand the history, and Asian guys look a lot different than White guys. Anyway, there are exceptions, though, so don't lose hope!
