Pet Sterilization Discount not for Foreigners?

Postby Novaspes » 16 May 2012, 10:38

Hi everyone,

I've been told a number of times the Taipei City Government offers a partial refund (I believe 50%) of the cost for sterilinzing pets if their owner is a Taipei City resident. My vet told me this is applicable to Taiwanese citizens only, so foreigners cannot take advantage of said discount. Do you know whether this is true? Better even, do you have a personal experience with this issue?

Thank you. :notworthy: I apologize if this is written somewhere else, but I can't seem to find this specific piece of information anywhere on the forum.

I am not in Taipei, so my response may not apply to your specific case. In Taichung, the city government provides money for neutering and chipping of pets. When they are able to do it (there is a limited budget), a vet will charge you only NT500 for neutering and microchipping, and the rest will be covered by the city government's special budget. Not all vets will do this because they have to apply to the city government for funding. Also, there are certain times of the year when the funds are not available. Foreign residents with a Taichung city address on their ARC are eligible for this when available. There is a limitation of the number of times you can do this (I think one person can have up to 4 pets registered with microchips). Taiwanese with addresses other than Taichung on their ID card, or foreigners with no residency are not eligible for this because it's paid for by the city government. I imagine this is the case in Taipei and other cities where this service is available.
