Reporting from the frontlines of the dog vs. cat war

Forgot to say that there has been a shifting in the territories. The dogs eat in the kitchen, but one of the cats, Icon, has taken to sleeping there -I guess because it is cool. I was afraid she might get cornered but actually the dog only chases her when she goes out.

The living room sofa was like Alsace, shifting hands between whoever was winning at the time. Same with the balcony. For a while , the cats had the upper hand and the problem was then crossing the living room to get to the other balcony.

A couple of months ago there was a lot of chasing. Now it's a bit calmer. But Bobby has taken to stalk under the bed. Or the second balcony door, than goodness he hasn't figured out he can go around and get in there by the other side...

The main casualties so far have been the water bowls. Each group, cats and dogs, have an electric water fountain that circulates water. But also other water bowls around the house. Each group tries to drink for the other ones's water source. Hence, the broken bowls.

One of my cousins who also has a cat dog civil war going on at home -guess it runs in the family- sent me this as a sign of progress:

"At least they sit together", she says. I tell her I'd give a month's salary for that to happen among my tribe.

I'm a dog kinda gal. Not to say that I dislike cats, because kittens can be cute as well. Bottom line is I just want a furbaby to cuddle with all day, and then when they grow up they can guard my house for me.

Oh, Bobby guards against thieves and recently I discovered that he is also a fire alarm. He also attacks geckos and roaches alike, and butterflies when he sees them.

The rest, however, won't bother. It is beneath Their Lordships to dirty their paws with disgusting stuff like bugs.

I thought this one is pretty detailed. The only point different from what I've saw on TV's pet help shows is that this article says the two pets should be kept away from each other during feeding, however most shows I've seen uses a separator that allows them to see each other while eating but can't get to one another.

So winter is here, and the cats are back on my bed. seemed all was relatively calm, but just now there was an incident where Bobby raised his head at the edge of the bed to check on me and teh cats took it as a threat to jump up the bed -where Bobby is never allowed, BTW. Anyways the two biggest cats just hissed and spat and lashed at Bobby, who replied in furious barks and only retreated when i told him so. One of the cats jumped after him just to make sure. Not good.

So far. though, when I sleep, all is quiet on the Bedroom Front.

Bobby and Toto sleep on teh floor, in their respective beds. The cats sleep on me.

Indeed. It is only that time when we are all getting ready for bed when the situation gets a bit... tense. Bobby tries to get the cats as they jump on the bed. Finally, he settles in his own bed and lets them come and go... until next morning, when the truce evaporates.
